Mercury Free Dentistry
In the past, amalgam was the most commonly used material when creating fillings for patients. However, these fillings contain a small amount of mercury – a material that has potential health risks – and often resulted in a metallic appearance to the teeth. At Dental Professionals of Fair Lawn, we use tooth-colored fillings as a safer and more attractive alternative to amalgam fillings.
OraVerse®
Following dental procedures that use a local anesthetic, many of our patients dislike the feeling of numbness that stays with them long after the procedure. With OraVerse®, our patients are now able to recover from the feeling of numbness in half the time. If used, OraVerse® will be administered immediately following your procedure, allowing you to to talk, eat, and smile much faster after the initial treatment.
Holistic Dentistry
In an effort to protect our environment and offer greater convenience to our patients, we use digital x-rays, computer imagery, and digitized patient records. This helps to cut down on paper waste, and eliminates the use of certain environmentally harmful chemicals associated with developing traditional photos. Plus, our digital x-ray technology significantly reduces patient exposure to radiation, and provides near-instantaneous images that can often be sent electronically to your insurance provider.
Dental Emergencies
We provide all our patients with a 24-hour emergency phone number in cases of dental emergencies such as extreme pain, tooth looseness, traumatic injury, or other factors. In these situations, we can make arrangements to see our patients as quickly as possible. If you feel you are experiencing a dental emergency, please call 201-972-6555.
Scaling and Root Planing
When gum disease progresses, it may be necessary to restore your periodontal health through scaling and root planing. Using specialized tools, our dentists are able to carefully remove any plaque and bacterial buildup below the gumline non-surgically. Once a deep cleaning has been completed, root planing will smooth the roots of your teeth, making it difficult for bacteria to become attached. The gums can be sealed afterward using an advanced laser, promoting faster healing and helping to reduce discomfort.
Infection Control
Your safety is very important to us, so we take great care to keep a high level of cleanliness and sterilization throughout our office. We use disposable tools and equipment when possible, and our reusable materials are thoroughly disinfected before each treatment. Our staff uses gloves and masks when working with patients, and all countertops and surfaces are regularly cleaned.
Endodontics/Root Canal Therapy
If you are experiencing extreme sensitivity to hot and cold, and/or feel pain in one or more of your teeth, you may have an infection that needs immediate treatment. An infected tooth can also sometimes lead to a dental abscess forming in the area. If left untreated, an infected tooth or abscess can lead to tooth loss and can potentially cause more serious overall health issues – it can even be a life-threatening condition.
Sealants
Placing dental sealants over the surface of the back teeth is a preventative measure that can keep bacteria from entering small crevices in the molars, thereby helping to protect against the formation of decay in these areas. This can serve as an effective defense against cavities for all patients—especially children. Made of a durable, plastic material, sealants can strengthen the enamel on the molar surfaces and other crevices of the teeth that are susceptible to bacteria buildup.
Dental Cleanings
Like regular oral exams, dental cleanings are key to managing the health and beauty of your teeth and smile. Professional cleanings can remove plaque and mild stains from the surface of the enamel that may not be eliminated with at-home oral hygiene regimens, providing an opportunity for our dental team to clean hard-to-reach areas that you may miss when brushing and flossing.
Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride isn’t just for children – at Dental Professionals of Fair Lawn, we offer fluoride treatments for all of our patients to prevent cavities and the buildup of dental decay. Complementing your dental cleaning with a fluoride treatment can be an excellent way to safeguard your teeth and gums against harmful, cavity-causing bacteria.
Family Dental Care/Pediatric Dentistry
Our gentle and friendly administrative professionals at Dental Professionals of Fair Lawn work hard to make your child’s visit to the dentist as comfortable and relaxing as possible. With regular exams and cleanings, as well as a wide variety of preventive care treatments, we can help your children develop good habits and maintain healthy teeth and gums for years to come!
Oral Exams
Regular dental visits play an essential role in maintaining the continued health of your teeth and gums. While at-home oral hygiene is important to keeping your mouth clean and healthy, there are many concerns that can go undetected without routine examinations from an experienced dentist. Left untreated, these small dental issues can turn into more extensive complications.
Oral Cancer Screening
Either as part of a routine oral exam or on its own, we recommend that patients have an oral cancer screening regularly. If detected and treated early, the survival rate for those diagnosed with oral cancer can be 80-90 percent. Oral cancer screening is a quick, painless procedure that can be vital for your overall health.
