New Jersey Dentist Reveals Types and Uses of Different Porcelain Dental Restorations
Dr. Jody Bardash discusses three types of porcelain restorations available at Dental Professionals of Fair Lawn, as well as what concerns each can be used to address.
Fair Lawn, NJ — “At Dental Professionals of Fair Lawn, we use many different types of porcelain for dental restorations,” says New Jersey dentist Jody Bardash, DMD. “It’s all dependent on the patient and his or her specific case.” Included among these porcelain options are daVinci, E-max®, and BruxZir® Solid Zirconia, Dr. Bardash notes, all of which have unique benefits for particular indications.
For patients interested in improving the appearance of gaps, chips, discolorations, and other cosmetic concerns, Dr. Bardash says porcelain veneers constructed by the daVinci Dental Studio can often be an excellent option. “If you’re purely seeking aesthetic improvement for your teeth, we typically use daVinci veneers, which are composed of ultra-thin ceramic material and bounded to the front of the teeth. High quality restorations made at labs such as daVinci use several layers of porcelain when they create their veneers, and that produces the translucency and color that mimics natural teeth.” In addition to their natural look and feel, he notes that daVinci veneers are also highly resistant to permanent staining from coffee, tea, wine, and cigarette smoking.
For patients with damaged, decayed, or missing teeth, Dr. Bardash shares that E-max® and BruxZir® Solid Zirconia porcelain restorations can often be ideal. “We use E-max® – which is a newer porcelain that’s a bit stronger – for restorations like inlays and onlays in the back of the mouth. Another newer porcelain we’re using is BruxZir® Solid Zirconia, which is hard, processed zirconia with an overlay of porcelain.” Due to its durability, Dr. Bardash notes that BruxZir® Solid Zirconia can be great for dental crowns and even full-arch cases on dental implants.
Ultimately, Dr. Bardash stresses the importance of seeking a highly trained and qualified dentist when considering any dental restoration. “Dental restorations can fail when the incorrect porcelain is used for a particular restoration. As a dentist, you have to realize that each different porcelain has a different type of preparation. You need to know the materials you’re using for the proper restoration as well as the fact that there’s a specific way of preparing the dentition to be able to accept that type of porcelain.”
