Fair Lawn Dentist Gives Deserving Patient a New Smile
Cosmetic dentist Dr. Jody Bardash recently performed a smile makeover free of charge for Maurice Mazyck, who grew up homeless.
Fair Lawn, NJ — Maurice Mazyck, the subject of New York Times best-seller, “An Invisible Thread,” was recently treated to a complimentary smile makeover from Jody Z. Bardash, DMD, a dentist in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. Dr. Bardash says he was touched by Maurice’s story, and wanted to do something nice for him by offering his services pro bono. In the book, written by Laura Schroff, Laura explains how she first met Maurice and how they became unlikely friends. At the time, Maurice was a homeless 11-year-old who was panhandling on the streets. Through a random act of kindness, Laura began a tradition of bringing food to Maurice. Today, the pair shares their story with others, and say they have a mother and son-like relationship.
In a recent blog titled, “A New Smile for an Unforgettable Patient,” Dr. Bardash explains how he met Maurice when his daughter invited them to speak at her school. He explains, “During their visit, I was able to meet both of them, and I noticed Maurice was strategically smiling and speaking in a way that hid a broken tooth. Inspired by all he had overcome in his life, I wanted to reach out to him and offer my services, free of charge.”
To provide Maurice with a smile makeover, Dr. Bardash used a combination of dental procedures. Dr. Bardash says he customized the treatment plan to meet Maurice’s unique needs. Although he needed a root canal, Maurice says he did not feel any pain during the procedure. To finish the smile makeover, Dr. Bardash says he reconstructed Maurice’s cracked teeth with porcelain veneers. “After all the work was completed, Maurice’s smile matched his incredible personality,” he says.
Ultimately, Maurice says he is proud of the new smile Dr. Bardash was able to create for him. In his patient testimonial, Maurice says, “He is a real philanthropist who cares about people and goes out of his way to help them. Like Laura Schroff, who helped me overcome a lot in my life, Dr. Bardash has a really big heart. I feel blessed to be able to say that I know him, and I feel honored to be able to call him a friend. Dr. Bardash is a member of several prestigious dental organizations, including the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. After earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree, Dr. Bardash went on to complete residency programs at Hackensack University Medical Center, training in both Craniomandibular Dysfunction and General Practice.
